WHY TALLOW

Before modern skincare became complex, animal fats like tallow were commonly used to care for skin. Not as a trend, but because they worked.

Tallow has a natural structure that closely resembles the oils found in human skin. This similarity allows it to sit comfortably on the skin, providing nourishment without the feeling of heaviness or excess.

🌿 Simple by nature

Modern skincare often relies on long ingredient lists and synthetic fillers. Tallow, by contrast, is naturally rich and complete.

By using tallow as the foundation of Celtic Earth Balm, we’re able to keep the formulation deliberately simple — focused on what the skin needs, and nothing it doesn’t.

Fewer ingredients. Fewer variables. More care.

⏳ Traditionally valued

Long before commercial skincare existed, tallow was used across cultures as a practical, everyday skin conditioner. Its use wasn’t rooted in marketing, but in familiarity and function.

We continue that tradition with care and intention, sourcing grass-fed Welsh tallow and preparing it slowly in small batches.

Loaded with skin-loving nutrients

Tallow contains naturally occurring fat-soluble nutrients and a balance of fatty acids that contribute to its rich, conditioning feel. Because it mirrors the structure of skin’s own oils, it tends to sit comfortably on the skin, helping it feel softer and more supple over time.

🤍 Why we choose it

We work with tallow because it aligns with our approach to skincare:

  • Ingredients that feel familiar to the skin
  • Formulations that don’t rely on fillers or unnecessary additives
  • A slower, more considered way of making products

Combined with raw honey and simple botanicals, tallow forms the foundation of a balm that feels grounding, comforting, and uncomplicated.

🍃 What about jojoba oil?

You’ll see jojoba oil in our formula – but unlike typical “seed oils” (like sunflower, canola, or soybean), jojoba isn’t a true oil at all. It’s a liquid wax ester, low in Linoleic acid and almost identical to the protective sebum our own skin produces. That’s why it’s famously stable, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), and one of the best natural carriers for tallow’s nutrients.
